Review: Canon Powershot S5 IS 04/10/2008
Written by: Mark "Line" Cansino

Canon Powershot S5 ISThe Powershot s5 IS does rock!

I love the flip out-twist-around screen, the instant movie mode record button, Left and Right stereo mic for recording video. The quality is really good on the photos and the video. Neat feature: If the flash is closed - the camera notifies you to open it for a photo! I love the cool personal sound choices for your camera's sound effects. I chose the wolf howl for the self timer.

I just wish that there was a rechargeable batteries option. However, in my last Powershot, the G2 that I had gotten a few years ago, I had found that when I replaced the rechargeable battery that I thought had died - I found it wasn't the battery causing a power loss, it was the camera itself for some reason. I guess that's why I'm up to a Powershot s5 IS!

I stuck with Canon because even after 4 years of the last one and the camera dying out, I always loved how the camera worked. So I could have switched but decided not to.

I still have yet to use every single feature. One of them that I'm looking forward to is the auto stitch. That'll be next for some cool panoramic or skyscraper of an image.

Details: 8 Megapixels, 12x Optical Zoom, Stereo Mic for Video Recording, 32 MB SD Card, Neck Strap, Stereo Video Cable to Connect to your TV, Interface cable to connect to your pc to edit/upload files, 4x AA Batteries included.

One thing that sorta bothers me is that you have a left and right mic on the front of the camera for recording sound, but the speaker is only on the left side. Would be cool that if you're recording stereo, to have playback in stereo, but I guess they'll have stereo speakers on the S6! wink wink to Canon!
